A fine 19th century Italian Grand Tour bronze after the celebrated ancient Roman statuette commonly known as the Narcissus (or Dionysus/Narcissus) type.

This finely cast bronze was created by Michele Amodio of Italy, reproducing an ancient Roman sculpture dating from approximately the 1st century BC to 1st century AD, itself believed to derive from an earlier Greek original of the 4th century BC associated with the artistic tradition of Praxiteles.

The figure represents the enduring fascination with classical antiquity that defined the Grand Tour period, when European travellers and collectors sought finely crafted reproductions of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. These bronzes brought the ideals of classical beauty, balance and proportion into private collections and refined interiors.

The sculptural elegance of the youthful figure, the refined modelling and the rich bronze surface demonstrate the skill of 19th-century Italian bronze casting traditions.
